Flying Vinyl Fest

Flying Vinyl Festival, the first one-day fest for vinyl lovers. If you, like me originally, only bought these tickets to see Swimmy D give a religious audio experience; after hours listening to the supporting bands, I cannot stress enough – come down early. Not only will you have the chance to grab yourself some freebies, if you commit to bringing yourself (and a tent?) down before doors open, you will also witness a multitude of talent and banging bands take the stage, with the side-dish of record which will be available which will tickle the taste buds of all us vinyl obsessives.

Take for instance Black Honey, the nights sub-headliners. Currently touring with Catfish and the Bottlemen, many music blogs raving that they are the ones to watch for 2016. Their recent release All My Pride could be claimed is what could be the product of any basic indie band today. However, the edgy and charming voice of the frontwoman (girl power!!) Izzy Baxter really sells the band to me. Songs such as Sleep Forever sound like the combination of the dark endearment from a Lana Del Rey song meshed with the innocence, indie-pop anthem from Wolf Alice. With what this band have given us so far, and very positive reactions from their live shows with CATB, I am in high agreement with other blogs. These are to watch for 2016, and definitely worth seeing tomorrow.

At the other end of the spectrum is The Magic Gang. The Magic Gang have some sort of geeky-rock sex appeal to them. They’re not afraid to test the waters of their talent. The funky-poppish Jasmine  (off their latest EP, The Magic Gang EP (creative title)) shows the band as polished off dreamy indie-poppers with their sweet, catchy lyrics and bouncy bass lines. However essences of grunge come to the surface in Alright shows that the band does have the split personality (the grungy bi-polar attitude must have been a consequence of touring with Wolf Al last year). It’s a band that can be happy and edgy. Geeky and Sexy – a band that can do both.

Other bands such as The Amazons and Yonaka (my latest obsession) will be strutting their stuff in the day.
